1. What is the Global Peace Prayer Festival?

The Global Peace Prayer Festival (GPPF) is a transformative spiritual gathering in Thimphu, Bhutan, bringing together eminent lamas, scholars, and practitioners from all schools of Buddhism to unite in prayer for global peace, healing, and happiness.

2. When and where will the festival take place?

• Dates: November 4–19, 2025
• Location: Thimphu, Bhutan (Kuenselphodrang, Changlimithang Ground)

3. Who is organizing the festival?

The event is hosted by the Royal Government of Bhutan, with the Central Monastic Body and and the Centre for Bhutan and GNH Studies as the working team.

4. Who can attend?

The festival welcomes:
• Buddhist practitioners (all traditions)
• Spiritual leaders & scholars
• Seekers of peace and wisdom
• Devotees from all backgrounds

5. What are the key events?

• Jabzhi Dhoechog Ritual (Nov 4–7) – A rare, large-scale purification ritual for global healing.
• Global Peace Prayer (Nov 8–10) – Non-sectarian Vajrayana prayers for peace.
• Public Blessings (Nov 10) – By eminent lamas.
• Bazaguru Mantra Recitation – (Nov 11) A collective chanting for universal peace.
• Kalachakra Empowerment (Nov 12–14) – A sacred initiation by His Holiness Je Khenpo.
• Nuns' Ordination (Nov 15-19) – By His Holiness the Je Khenpo at Tshalumey,Thimphu.

6. Will there be translations available?

Yes! Teachings and prayers will have simultaneous translations in English, Tibetan, and Dzongkha. Some prayers will also include phonetic and English translations.

7. Is there an exhibition or academic component?

Yes! Alongside the prayers, there will be:
• Kalachakra Art & Artefacts Exhibition
• Scholarly Seminars on Kalachakra

8. Can I participate online?

Yes! The ceremonies will be livestreamed for global participation.

9. How do I register?

10. Will visitors have to pay the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)?

Yes! All visitors will a require a visa before travelling to Bhutan and will be required to pay the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of US$100 per dayas part of the visa process. A non-refundable, one-off visa application fee of US$40 is also payable.
Visitors from India will have to pay INR 1,200 a night.

You can apply online for a visa or permit by completing an application form, or if you’re travelling with a tour operator or staying at a hotel, they can apply on your behalf.
